Hello all, I am not very computer smart and have a problem that hope someone can help me with. I have powermac G5 w/OS X. After I start up the mac the screen is all blue with no icons on it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I do have the install dicks that came with the computer.

Stick the install disk in, hold 'C', and try to start up.

If it does, go to utilities and do a 'Repair Permissions' on the internal harddisk. Then eject the install disk, shut down your Mac, and try to start up from the boot disk (your internal disk) again, i.o.w.: the normal way.

If it doesn't start up from the installation disk the odds are that the install disk's data can't reach the CPU because the I/O data port, between Superdrive and CPU, is blocked by a crashed internal hard disk. The Superdrive shares the I/O data port to the CPU with the internal harddisk. If so the internal harddisk will need replacement.
