Does anyone know how to do this?
Install Google Notifier for Mac. Once you've done that, set it as the default both in Mail's preferences and Notifier's preferences (one might automatically modify the other, though). I just tested this myself on a mailto link, and it takes me to a new Safari tab, automatically logs in, and drops the address into the To: field.
