Powerbook G4 doesn't accept CDs

I bought a secondhand Powerbook G4 and it came with a strange problem: Although it can read and burn a DVD, it rejects any CD I put in the drive. It doesn't matter if it is a blank cd, cd-r, audio cd, etc. I insert the cd in the drive, it tries to read the cd and after that it simply ejects the cd.

I don't think it is a hardware problem, since the same drive reads and burns DVD normally... So , what can it be and how can I solve this?

It probably is a hardware issue. DVDs are thicker than CDs, so a poorly adjusted read/write head could cause this result.

First, take a look at this article.

Second, if your drive is supposed to read your CDs, yet it doesn't happen, it most probably means the drive is just dirty. Cleaning is not the operation, which is recommended for a regular user, but if you feel you're skilled enough, you may give it a try (illustration only! please find disassembling guide corresponding to your model!).

Still, the best thing to do is to go see Apple Authorized Service Provider guys.
