A method to manage multitasking on the iPhone

I was thinking of a way Apple could manage multiple open apps on the iphone without reinventing the interface and not requiring devs to update their apps.

First, because of memory constraints, impose a limit of 4 concurrently running apps. When you are running an app now, pressing the home key will bring up a menu with the options: Leave running, Quit this app. Double clicking the home key auto-quits and dumps you into the springboard like normal. You can disable this in the general settings. Now in order to go to other apps, you swipe right on the dock area like you were going into spotlight, but doing that gesture in the dock area shows the running apps; click one and you go into it.

Would this workable?

Please don't turn this to a "we don't need to stinkin multitasking" thread.
