OK, I posted a tread about this in the digital hub, but it isnt gettting much attention there . So I am going to ask the same question here. What would you like to see from the next iPod OTHER then more HD space?

Well I love my iPod, but lack of space is an issue when you want to use it as a portable drive. But I would like:

    1. Remote control on headphones.

    2. Simple organisor software

    3. Voice recording

The only thing i really miss on my iPod is the remote control on the headphones.. annoying to take it out of your pocket or whatever just to adjust the volume or skip a song.

I agree that the space is a bit tiny if you are going to back thing up on it (still i have all my e-mail files and holiday pictures on it), when it comes to just MP3 files the 5gb is enough.

here is what I want (besides the obvious bigger HD):

I want to be able to control iTunes from a plugged in iPod, so I can see what song is playing on ITUNES and switch to the next song and even browse the ENTIRE library when it is plugged in to the comp. F/W is plenty fast to support this... If the iDevices are supposed to know about the iApps then that is the way it should be when plugged in...

as for external features, a remote is welcome, but not needed... I can control my iPod when it is in my pocket. If I had a case for it on the other hand, it might make more sense... everything else is pretty peachy as of right now...

Edit: ALSO a SEARCH BY GENRE is needed. I can't explain how useful that function is in iTunes....

Aside from synching with iPhoto and iMovie and a means to display the above on a tv set - I would agree with philbot about the remote...looks like there's already an interface for it on the iPod. As far as voice recording, I would go one step further and add support for a nice external mic. Both my father and brother are musicians and love my iPod for its music storing, but both use MiniDisc as they can easily hook up a mic and record practice sessions, or do songwriting/store ideas quickly. Why not add this to iPod and market these abilities to professional musicians?

By the way, there are more iPod mock-ups and of other Apple products. They look very nice! <a href="http://homepage.mac.com/benvp/"; target="_blank">GO TO APPLE-MOCK-UPS</a>

I'd like a wireless connection to the headphones. Does BlueTooth have enough bandwidth to wirelessly connect the iPod to the headphones?

I would like to be able to create a playlist on the fly rather than have to make them in iTunes proper.

    Recording would be incredible too.

Before I see a new iPod, I'd like to see a dock that will hook to an A/V receiver to play MP3's and any iMovies that might be stored on the HD.

Until there is a good/cheap firewire/MIDI solution, I'd love some MIDI functionality.

Maybe iCompose?.. that would be nice to attach my MIDI keyboard to an iPod and play away and record the musical score in an editable format.

A mic is a must, for dictation/reminders.. I personaly would use that more than a calendar/PIM feature.

I guess a daily voice message app would be sweet.

ITalk? --- personal audio messages that are stored by day/subject for easy usability. The itunes of Voice reminder/ note taking/Brain storming.

I should be in Apple product development.... emails me Apple HR. =D

I'd like a iPod amp and speaker module in true iPod style. The iPod is good enough to replace most bog standard hifi systems.

If apple made a cool pair of speakers with an amp you could just slot the pod into, complete with remote control... well that would be cool.

    I call it the iFi

With reguard to visualisations, how often do you stare at the iPod screen while listening to it? Not very often. Not worth implementing, most people listen to music on portable players when they're going somewhere, often running, so why have visualisations? Without visualisation I also see no reason for a color LCD that would also increase the cost. Organizer function, is just out of place. The iPod is great because its powerful and simple, don't clutter it with stuff just because its cool. KISS - KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. If you add cool stuff that results in something more confusing or harder to use, you've made the wrong choice.

Visualizations are not out of the question, I would love it. When your in a car and have nothing better to do...

Fisher Price kept it simple too...

I would also like to see a way to embed lyrics into the file. It would be a pain in the butt, but it's possible. Maybe not with MP3s, but iTunes could create a proprietary MP3+ format that just added some lyrics and timecode so they could scroll along like the titles do now.

Now before everyone gets up in arms about a proprietary format, since it's not possible to move songs off the iPod now (well, not legitimately anyway) the functionality would be exactly the same. Songs that are on the iPod can't be moved anywhere else anyway. And if it were metadata, once moved to another machine it would be stripped clean anyway and just lost rather than making the song unplayable.

This would be a cool b&w alternative to visualizations.

    THAT would be cool.

    Karyoke, in your pocket!

also, non-linear FF and RW should be implemented along with the ability to make songs play faster and slower if you want to (kinda like a aX speed where a=1-8 or .1-.8 it was in MacCast (BEST MP3 software, but it doesnt encode CDs!!! )
