Work-around for my recording audio with my camcorder

I just dropped $150 on a wireless microphone system to give better audio to some instructional videos I make with my camcorder, only to find out my camcorder does not have an audio input. Probably should've double checked that first, I guess. Now that I have this microphone system, I'd really like to use it (the audio from the camcorder is short of the quality I want) without having to buy a new camcorder for $600+.

My question: is there some decent work-around for recording audio using my MacBook while I film the videos with my camcorder that I can easily sync up together in editing? I spent some time seeing if I could record the audio with Garage Band and then splice that over the video in iMovie '09. I had a really, really hard time getting the audio to sync exactly with the video. Is there a better way to do this? Or does anyone have any tips on how to better use these two programs to get what I'm looking for?

Thanks in advance for any help! Much much appreciated!
