Just when I thought people couldn't get more ignorant...

For those of you not wanting to go there, here it is:

[quote]Those of us who have seen The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring know what an amazing director Peter Jackson is. When I learned that there apparently was to be a sequel, I was overjoyed. However, Peter Jackson has decided to tastelessly name the sequel "The Two Towers". The title is clearly meant to refer to the attacks on the World Trade Center. In this post-September 11 world, it is unforgiveable that this should be allowed to happen. The idea is both offensive and morally repugnant. Hopefully, when Peter Jackson and, more importantly, New Line Cinema see the number of signatures on this petition, the title will be changed to something a little more sensitive.

OMFG

At least petition online was kind enough to put this above the petition:

[quote]Please Note: The Two Towers is the title of the JRR Tolkien book originally published in 1954, the second book of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The title was thus established some 47 years prior to the attacks on the World Trade Center towers, and there is no evidence to suggest that Peter Jackson meant anything by continuing the same title other than faithfulness to the beloved Tolkien classics. Furthermore, the two distant, opposing towers in the Tolkien classic have very little if anything in common with the two matching towers of the World Trade Center. ? PetitionOnline.com

Don't be so sure. There are those that beleive that the holocaust is all a big media perpetrated hoax. And besides, not everyone has read the Tolkein novels and knows what they are called. SOoe people are just over-sensitive and jump on the bandwagon without checking facts. How many sigs has the petition gotten so far?

There will be alot more signatures. There are much more than 3400 idiots in the world.

You'll notice that essentially all of those signatures were either deleted as invalid (did someone hack this?) or are incredibly negative regarding the petition. Some of them are pretty funny to read. I couldn't find a single signature supporting the proposed name change. I suspect that this is a hoax, but Tolkein fans are pissed off anyway.

Try read the comment people have made. Less than 1% actually take their signature seriously and about 1000 has this text "false entry voided".

Yes, it is. If you see many of the people that signed that petition actually believing that crap about it being related to the wtc, they were motivated by their church.

The guy who posted the petition is using an assumed name and a false email address. So you know nothing about the peron who actually posted the petition and set it in motion. You are making bigoted assumptions based on a few who signed the petition.

I thought that since you make bigoted assumptions all the time about my eternal destiny that I was allowed to make a few of my own. Guess not.

People aren't always ignorant, they can be stupid too. And judgmental.

I'm sure my spam-loving sister will send me this petition link any minute now.

PS: what does religion have to do with this at all? Seems to me like a lot of "liberals" who are extremely sensitive about "political correctness" would sign this in a second.
