Ipod Nano white screen of death

Anyone know what happens after attempting to fix the white screen of death on iPod Nanos? I have repeatedly restored my software, held down the center and menu buttons, blah, blah, blah. Nothing brings back the Apple logo or the data screen. I just get the white screen. Is there a fix? Is Apple aware of this malfunction?:???
