Roman Polanski win the gold palm
Roman Polanski with his moovie " The Pianist" win the gold palm in the Canne's Festival this evening (evening in France). This moovie from the Spielmann's autobiographie "the pianist" deals with the story of a normal guy trying to stay alive in the ghetto of Varsovie during WW2. This moovie was very important for Polanski because when he was a little kid he was there. This is his most personal moovie. According to him he have waited a long time before making it, to reach the suffisant maturity and to find the good scenario. I wish to see it soon.

Yes, if he hit US soil he'd be arrested on the spot. For underage sex with a minor. Back in the '70's this was going on all the time in Hollywood (actually, been goin' on all the time there...he just got caught). I believe Jack Nicolson was involved too but legally squeeked out of the charges.
I hope this new film comes soon to the states. I like some of his work. He's done some clunkers recently, but Rosemary's Baby and others are classics.

I appreciate his films, too, and the fact that his wife was murdered by the Manson family (that must be a hard one to bear). But the guy's a sicko. Surely that must limit one's involvement in supporting his art.

I can see that he should be punished but the arbitrary age of eighteen does not all of a sudden make someone an adult that has not been one in maturity all along, and she was close to the age anyway.... There were probably alterior motives for getting the law on him... such as reactionary outrage at his "immoral' movies.</strong><hr></blockquote>
I thought that was his "thing." That he liked running around with 12-year-olds or something. I'm sure there are all kinds of "mitigating circumstances," but predatory behavior is wrong, man.
If everyone judged art based on the artist's personal life rather than on the merits of the work itself, we'd have to pass on too many great artists to list. You don't have to like Polanski as a person, but don't dismiss his art just because of something he allegedly did. If you don't like it, don't like it for the right reasons.

Well is art is better than the guy. Unfornately and perhaps it's normal (i mean artist does not have superior moral values than "normal" peoples) it's the case of a certain number of artists.
