The 2002 Stanley Cup Finals...

...because Lord Stanley is too good to share a thread with any other sport on earth. Including the World Cup.

Wings in 7. Yes, 7. You watch: a couple big players for Detroit will go down. I'll bet invisible money that someone will hammer Yzerman into the boards / in general, duing game one. I also bet they're going to pound on Lidstrom and Chelios all series long. No Lidstrom or Chelios, no Cup.

Wings will take it, and Moogs is right - it's going to be a long series. Carolina is playing some great hockey right now. Lots of big strong young players that are going to really wear down some of the older Wings... but in the end I think the vets are going to pull it out.

As much as I hate Hasek, I'm afraid he's really on a roll. Irbe is as well though, so it's shaping up to be a great goaltending battle.

Hey preston, spoken like a true Leafs fan, man. They're not hockey fans there in the center of the universe (OK, the center of Canada), they're Leafs fans. Big difference.

I wonder if the Toronto Sports Network is even going to cover the games for you guys now that the only team in the NHL worth talking about is out...

    LOL

Screw the Leafs and their fat-assed, gum-smackin' coach. There are maybe four respectable guys on that entire team. It's too bad Roberts ever left Carolina. If he were there they'd have a legitimate shot of beating the Wings. But he had to run for the money, leaving the team that salvaged his entire career.

Beyond that, Cujo, that McCauley kid and Greene (I think that's the guy who takes all the face offs) are OK. The rest are cheap-shot artists, hacks and dirty sons a bitches. Even Sundin gets cheap when crunch time comes. Leafs suck. The only teams I hate more than the Leafs are Philly, Detroit and the Crapitals - in that order.

    Nothing personal...

And good points all, Murbot. Especially about Toronto and their fair-weather hockey attitude. TSN sucks. They don't even have Barry Melrose with the new improved mulletless doo!

Hmm, I say wings in 6, maybe 5 if they figure out how to play offense like they did in game seven against the Avs.

As I've watched this year, Detroits big strength is the mobility of its defenders. They're the ones who are breaking out and moving the puck around so well. The offenders are also good at moving the puck, but they think too much and don't attack enough. Plus, they don't seem to shoot really well.

If Detroit can make the adjustments necessary to invigorate its offense, it will be a quick series.

The one thing that Detroit really lacks (and the thing I thought would help CO with Blake and Foote and Kaspar) is that they don't have any in-your-face defensmen who can punish you physically.

Lidstrom is almost more of a forward the way he plays D, Chelios is tough but not that big. I suppose you got guys like Fischer (and defensive forwards like McCarty) scrumming it up, but I think Carolina has a lot more grit / guys who like to pound the crap out of their opponents along the boards. That could really work to their advantage if they do it wisely. If they try to make too many big hits they'll get burned, but in general I am anxious to see how it pans out.
