Macbook clicks when I push and hold down the power on button

My Son's MacBook died, when I hold down the power on button, it just faintly clicks every second or so.

Anybody ever have this problem before and if so, what was it? I think it's a dead HD.

And does anybody know offhand if the macbook and macbook pros can interchange HDs? I bought my 2.16GHz MacBook pro around the same time I got my son his Macbook. I'm hoping I can put my hard drive in his macbook and buy a bigger and faster one for my MacbookPro.

Thanks to all who answer.

Hard drive is definitely dead. Buy a new drive or wipe an old one and then install it.

Thanks, I thought it was the HD. The only thing that worries me is that when I try to turn it on, the screen doesn't even turn on. I would think that I'd get the flashing HD icon with the sad face.
