WTF is going on at apple?

1Ghz G4 - Ooh, aaah . . . NOT

PC133 Ram - have apple never heard of DDR?

NVidia Geforce 4MX - MX? why do we always get cut downs? I know that pc users don't have the GF4 yet but when they do they'l have faster variants than we can buy

Superdrive across the board? - um, no

faster motherboard ? - um, no

More Ram slots? - I guess not

Firewire 2? - nope, I guess there are no competitors eh?

What a crock.

This is not about Mhz envy. Its about apple making kick ass computers that offer real and persuasive arguments for PC users to switch, thus increasing market share. Apple must sell shedloads of high margin Pro macs in order for there to be a healthy future that involves macs of all types for all of us well into the future.

Will anyone here buy any of the new quicksilvers?

I showed my students. The reply?

"is that all?"

I asked them if they would buy one. The reply?

"Not for that bloody price. You can get a kick ass pc for half that"

Well, what about the imac then?

"It looks cool, but you can't upgrade it"

How is apple supposedly gunning for market share?

Maybe when evryone stops buying them Apple might just cotton on.

    agreed. pro towers still suck.

apple should have made the radeon 8500 standard instead of the geforce 4mx

I was wondering if there were fewer apple apologists and more people who wanted the mac to continue and succeed then maybe apple would have done something?

It seems that apple are not pushing ahead because they believe their installed customer base will just put up with it?

    you know this happens everytime.

people get their expectations up, say if apple doesn't release x then they are doomed and then apple releases something underwhleming yet nearly everyone forgives them and tells anyone who is dissapointed or says otherwise to go buy a pc.

yea, saying this to the guy who waits online at MWNY all night long, never owned anything but a mac, never would buy anything but a mac, and loves the mac really makes sense asshole. please go elsewhere

For me this is a clear statement that we will see a BIG upgrade in the "near" future (MWNY july at latest). Just like the last iMac-upgrade before the iMac2 and also like the last PM-revision before the G4:s were introduced.

I would have been more "dissapointed" if we'd seen new PMs introduced during a special event with the same specs as now but with DDR-ram.

This sneak-update clearly shows that apple has something much bigger up their sleeve. Now I won't have a hard time deciding wether to buy now or to wait.

/me is waiting for the BIG update =)

BTW: The dual 1GHz for $2999 is a pretty good deal, although the specs for the low-end (my price segment) dissapoints me.

I wasn't talking to you. And even if I was, I really do find that comment to be quite the reaction , anyways..I take no real offense. Or intend to make a ordeal over such a small incident. But calming down may help. No hard feelings

Something must be up as Apple didn't even upgrade the HD space on their computers. Can we say that Apple just did this upgrade for a temporary fix and that the "real" upgrade is going to be coming in the next couple of months? "MWTY, Seybold?" Apple could have easily announced this line up at MWSF. The only thing that I could see taking the limelight away from the new iMac is a 1.6 Ghz G5. All I can say is that something is up. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

Thanks Applenut, you saved me the time of replying to this idiot.

But I do think this update is a good sign for G5 Powermacs at MWNY. That sort of sucks because by that time a 1.6 GHz G5 will barely keep up with the Pentium 4, but I suppose Apple doesn't really care. Actually, 1.6 GHz is probably too high for the G5 initially. I bet we see 1.0, 1.2, 1.4 GHz for the first G5 powermacs.

It's also promising that Apple didn't hype these Powermacs at all. If you go to <a href="http://www.apple.com,"; target="_blank">www.apple.com,</a> the new powermacs are only a footnote on the front page. So at least Apple understands how lame these towers are. It's good to know that Apple realizes how much they suck.

wooo..You are a volatile group of fellows. I suppose the emotion and seriousness is too much for a light hearted fellow like me. I suppose I need to watch what I say around people like you..How sad and disturbing. No maturity..adios...Should I even look back to see what sticks are going to be thrown at me?

Actually, the new powermacs rotate into the main picture on Apple's front page, not simploy as a footnote - try reloading a few times.

And boosting emotions up to unrealistic levels in the first place, and continuously predicting Apple's doom is supposed to be more mature?

I feel that we can all have our varying opinion of what we consider good and bad as far as the latest PM stepgrades are concerned without hating each other or being so volatile. I personally would like to see more progress by Apple, but I am a patient man and will wait and watch. But let us try not to be so bitter toward each other about this topic..afterall we are MAC users for a reason..wintel machines don't do it for us. We need to stop taking this upgrade , next processor thing so strongly .

Good for you! At least someone is a PROFESSIONAL here, work before rumors. Apple just released the best desktops on the market for their price and all most people have to say is "YAWN"!? WTF!?

My brother who works for Apple is actually in touch with serious buyers. He told me today that he already got about 6 people to order the dualies. To that I YAWN in your faces! Apple hit a double with this release not a home run, certainly not a strike out though.

    This is a real update <a href="http://www.apple.com"; target="_blank">http://www.apple.com</a>;

A G5 is a home run sort of update, but as of now it is just vaporeware.
