    Scientific bullshit

I don't know...I find it really hard to buy into all that stuff. Just seems a bit much. But who knows. As soon as I say that, my seventh moon will light my chakra and Neptune will pass through my aura and I'll win the lottery.

    Astrology: bullshit.

How do I know? I have a twin, and she's completely unlike me.

My psychology professor once did a personality test for the attendees at a conference. They filled out a page of multiple choice questions. They got an envelope on their chairs at a banquet with their personality profile. They read their profile, which included things like their fears, sexual anxieties, fantasies and so forth. They were asked how accurate the profile was, and 89% said it was spot-on. Then they were asked to pass their profiles to the person on their left. With some hesistation they did. (Hey, do you want everyone knowing your sexual insecurities?) Everyone got the same form-letter "profile." The profile was assembled using one sentence from each of the 12 horoscopes from the previous day.

    [bad speller today]

    Cack.

But having said that, I am the archetypical Scorpio: sultry, devilishly handsome, mysterious and (um) gifted.

Astronomy and astrology is kinda two terms that means roughly mean the same, both being a class of knowledge regarding stars.

But... Todays, the term Â?astrologyÂ? is used for a class of knowledge to know one's history (and also future) through the use of the knowledge of the stars.

    Anyway.

The concpet of astrology (as in prediction of the future through the use of stars) probably is derived from the knowledge of navigating around the world using stars.

The concept is... If stars can lead us to find our way, could it also help us lead us to find out our future or our fate? To help us navigate into the future?

Who knows... Our life is cleary already being decided, but... I don't think that the stars have anything to do with it.

As for astrology being teached in universities

They teached evolution (as in the changes from non-living things to a complex living organism) in university, and evolution doesn't make sense at all, since has no clear evidence to prove that it's right. So why not also teached astrology?

It would be helpful in some cases to gain extra knowledge.

On a related note. Why is that Â?UFO-logyÂ? isn't acknowledged as a normal Â?scienceÂ? by some scientists?

The appearance of UFO is a reoccuring event that is visible throughout history

China has a lot of history regarding UFO sightings, and it also has history regarding dragons (who probably are aliens).

    <a href="http://asia.cnn.com/2002/BUSINESS/04/12/hk.ufology.china/"; target="_blank">http://asia.cnn.com/2002/BUSINESS/04/12/hk.ufology.china/</a>;

    As for women and astrology.

During my oberservation, women seems like the idea of the supernatural.

Women like to read the astrology section of a magazine, they also like to read or consume fantasy story with supernatural theme.

Women has a close relationship with the supernatural.

Men on other hand, like stuff like sciences and so. Of course, the supernatural is also part of sciences, so even boys do studied the supernatural.

But nevertheless, girls is has a much closer relationship with the supernatural than boys. And in general, asian (and even people like the native North Americans) is much more receptive toward the supernatural than their western (how the heck the termÂ*Â?westernÂ? come up, I didn't know) counterparts.

So... If you have an asian fantasy based franchise, to made it appealing to western type boys (in their teens, 20's, or so) what better way than to subtitute swords with guns, ships with spaceships, and gorgeous male character with a female one.

On a related note. Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones almost become a chick movie. Why do you think that N-Sync were almost become guest stars in it?

    As for one's seventh moon.

Anyone would like to sing Â?Seventh MoonÂ??

    That psychologist's test is great.

I, for one, would love to see astrology taught in college: After a solid year of disassembling the various rhetorical tricks and emotional plays that most astrologers use the students' critical skills would be substantially enhanced.

The sad thing is that I know that there are a lot of things about the world that science is a long way from explaining, and we are dealing with systems so complicated that something that looks random, and whose given explanation is mystical, might actually work (acupuncture comes to mind). It just doesn't look like Western astrology falls into this category.

On the other hand, I still make a pretty good Libra.

Acupuncture has been demonstrated to have scientific benefits. Also, the structure of the body as described by acupuncturists has been related to areas where neuropeptides are released, specifically those chemically related to the opiates.

Great point! Another way to achieve this is to teach magic to students. Great way to learn how con artists work...

Uh...I suspect from the original question that you don't really know what the definition of science is (or more specifically what the fundamental requirements of a science are). There is nothing particularly rigorous about the way astrologers arrive at their findings. Everything is based on coincidence, blind faith or illogical cause and effect.

If those studying a topic don't apply the scientific method, then what they study is not a science. Have you ever heard of astrologers doing extensive statistical analyses or double-blind studies? Neither have I. And there's a reason for that: they'd lose their income if they did.

It's seems that there is not a lot of people here who believe that astrology is a science.

Considering that many people here have a high scientific level of knowledge (i speak of general scientific culture) i come to the conclusion that the more scientific culture you have, the less you will believe in astrology.

The people i met who believe in astrology used to have a lack of general scientific culture.

Well, that's a [another question all together]. Why people buy into Astrology or under what social conditions they are likely to buy into it, is totally different than whether or not the thing itself is a science / scientific.

In my mind, you can't even make a legitimate argument that Astrology is a science - not the way it's been practiced up to this point.

Astrology is much more myth than science. Not saying it's bad or that people who believe in it are bad - just that there is absolutely nothing scientific about the conclusions which astrologers draw. Nothing.

There are also many people who say the Worldwide Wrestling Federation is a sport. And so I have to ask - do we care what these people think? Hell no! Our only concern is how to stop them from breeding.
