just curious.... since i read all 25 pages of the "now playing on iTunes......." post, i only notice the bartok, philip glass and the bach cello suites. I know that the listenership for opera/classical music is waaaaay down but can it be this bad?

No, but generally the people who listens classical music love good sound, the orchestral music is not very good when converted in MP3. most classical lovers buy CD, and most of them prefers live. Carmina burana in real as nothing in common than listening a CD.

I am not a specialist of operal my self, perhaps one day i will go to listen an opera.

My favorite are : Carmen from Bizet " l'amour est enfant de boheme ...) the Zauberflutte from her Mozart and the Barbier de Seville from Verdi. More modern Pelleas and Mellisande from Debussy is quite impressive too.

Anything by Puccini. Also Verdi, and Mozart, I mean, how could one not like his stuff?

I am also fond of Baroque Opera, and Robbie Williams

I went to 5 seasons of operas (that's 8/year including summer) at Indiana University. Wow - I just realized that's a lot of operas.

They usually had 1 or 2 standards, but they'd almost always have at least 1 or 2 that were very non-standard, too. And I don't think they ever repeated one for the entire 5 years. It was nice, because in most cities you'll just get the la Bohemes and Figaros every season.

    What's your interest, Wagnerite?

Actually, I don't really like much Classical music, as the term specifying the genre between 1750 and 1825. I prefer baroque and I like some romantic, including some of the operas from that time.

I also like heavy metal a lot.

Well, there are probably more opera (not the browser) people here than there are <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=001465"; target="_blank">drivers</a>.

Personally, I know nothing about opera, but a good friend is an opera singer. We call her Dr. Diva.

I was putting a compilation CD for her, and one of the songs she included was just amazing. It was an aria from Heitor Villa-Lobos Bachianas Brasieleiras no. 5.

That is a cool piece. Add some techno, and you can really bop to it.

Well, my interest as far as operas are concerned is a bit complicated...

My hobby/research area is Wagnerian operas. Although mostly on the Ring cycle. But i'm into everything about operas... singers, conductors etc...

when san francisco opera did the ring cycle, i bought tickes for one complete performances of the ring. since the cycles overlap (they did 4 performances) i bought standing tickets for the rest of the performances. Of course, this was just after i finished my undergrad studies, so i had to sleep in my car for almost a month. Spent my entire life savings that month
