The AI Golf Tournament???

Here's an idea I had. An annual AI golf tournament. Every year, somewhere else in the US or Canada. Good idea? Bad idea? Actually I was thinking it would be kinda cool but probably too expensive. What do you guys think?

People do this kind of thing over the internet by playing and posting their scores. Yeah, you need some trust, but if you use appropriate handicapping, it can work.

That would be awesome. I visit a golf related message board and they have stuff like this a lot. I think some of them who live around the same part of the country sometimes play different courses.

The one rule I have. Come play at one of the munis here in C-Town.

I think the course difficulty should be taken into account as well. There's an index for this, I believe. The place where I can play for free is where Tiger shot +13 in four rounds. Combine that with my level of skill and you've got yourself a disaster.

-> Aha, I found a score card in my sister's golf bag. It says 72.5/136 if I play from the normal tees. I think that's the course difficulty.

Which course is that? Congressional? I think that was a U.S. Open or something when he was just an amateur.

The 72.5 is the course rating. 136 is the slope.

Hey, since we're all from different areas, and it's expensive to fly in to play golf, at least for us normal folks, just pick a date/time and we can all make tee times at our local courses and report back with pics and scores.

Not a bad idea, we should get this going sometime this summer.

Rating from the pro tees is 75.6, and when they grow the grass long for big events, good God. In 1997 Tiger sucked it up at the US Open, and he was no amateur. I think he even won the masters that year. Of course, he's a lot better now, but I still remember the buzz about Tiger's difficulty with the course. I was 16. They paid me to hold up a sign and I got to drink gatorade and eat granola bars for free. Very cool.

Anyway, there are two courses at Congressional, and I think the other one is a bit easier (still no slouch), though I like the scenery of the championship course better. When you have a handicap like mine, scenery counts. How high does the handicap rating go? I'm guessing I could bogey the course on a good day. That would be 18, if I'm not mistaken.

Just let me know when it's time for me to dust off the 'ol clubs.

Yeah you're right about the handicap. The rating is what a scratch golfer would shoot on average at the course. So if the par is 72 they'd shoot about 4 over par. Damn are you a member at Congressional? Must be rich.

I could've worked at the NEC Invitational which has been held at Firestone Country Club in Akron (very nice course). I've been to the tourney in 99 and 01, each time Tiger won it. Pretty good stuff. I mainly go just to look at their equipment.

SO what kinda equipment do all yall who play golf use?

    I have change my putter , replace my old Odyssey rossie 2 against the white Odyssey two balls : i know many people who would like to steal it ..;

My irons are Cobra, but at the end of the year i wonder if i will not buy the Mizuno MX 20 form forged with iron shafts.

My driver is ok ; it's a hawk eye 11 °, when i do a mistake it's because i was wrong, but if one day i brake my shaft perhaps i should take a grafoloy one (perhaps stiff : because when i hit well the ball it goes ot 250 to 275 yards).

Have you any secret for regularity ?

Mine is red and a goldish color. It's low torque and light. I was meaning the driver is a secret weapon, although Grafalloy shafts are good. I actually broke the shaft I originally had in it, but the thing was way too whippy and had way too much torque in it. I switched and saw a better with the Prolite Elite (I've seen a lot of tour players with this shaft). Still with breaking one shaft, the club totals about $150. I like component clubs a lot as opposed to the big-name OEM companies. The driver I have is really good, although I have a big time problem hitting any driver on a course (I can absolutely thread this thing on the range like 270 easily and I'm skinny).

I don't know if I should really be playing an R flex in my driver shaft, might be causing some problems. I'm looking at getting a 2nd driver. Maybe SMT, another component head maker that has ppl in the long drivev competitions using their stuff.

powerdoc- I tend to think the stock Callaway shafts are crap. I bet if you reshafted that sucker with a quality shaft you'd see some results.

My shaft flex is Ultra Stiff.

Helps a lot. I hit the ball good 280+.
