A friend is coming over from France, wants to buy an iPad 3G here which he will use in France.

What data plan options do he have in France/Paris?
Is it better just to buy it there?

It's exactly the same hardware regardless of where he buys it. As for 3G service, SFR, Vivendi and Orange are all selling the ipAd so they should also be offering service plans. As plan prices tend to change from time to time he should shop around for the best price when he needs.
