Maybe I watched a different show than you.

Axel sounded off, really really off. Honestly, it sounded like a bad cover band. You can't have GNR without Slash. What a disgrace.

It was cool to see Axel again, but I thought he sounded really bad.

Whats up with the new members of the band. You've got one goth guy that looks like he's from Marilyn Manson, one guy with a mask that looks like the bassist to limp biskit, some guy with a checked suit.....it was just too wacky.

Yes! Four years in the making...and it sounded like shit. The HIVES were better than them...

(I think some of the members are former NIN and that was Buckethead with the mask?)

I think Gn'R should tour with David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar...ack...

Since this is kinda MTVAwards related:

    Pink.

    Shakira.

    Drunk Pink accepting award.

I have some more respect for Eminem. Think he just may be going places.

PDiddy. The Donald Trump of Rap. Cool.

I actually have a lot less respect for him after last night. What is the deal with his anger towards Moby? Him threatening to punch him and calling him a girl makes no sense. Is he in 5th grade? He's a loser and that video didn't deserve any awards. He's not "controversial" anymore. That schtick is old and as they say in Boston: "whickad fahkin retahdid"

Sorry I forgot to add the at the end of that statement. Still, Moby (except live sometimes) is a geek.

I must have watched a different show because I thought GNR rocked! Axel Rose had a very intelligent thing to say about the release of GNR's upcoming album, "Chinese Democracy." He basically recognized GNR's accomplishments and status concerning the original band and asked the question (paraphrased), "Where do you go from there?" He showed substantial poise in noting that past material was the product of something great and that the upcoming album must reflect that greatness while still drawing upon the band's heritage. A transcript of Kurt Loder's interview with Axel Rose can more satisfyingly explain his comments.

I thought the VMAs were pretty hilarious, not Jimmy Fallon himself though. He is not funny. The only thing funny he said was Fat Joe eating one of the Olsen twins, and Fat Joe didn't seem too amused by the comment. I guess no one else wanted the job huh? Worse than the Wayan's brothers.

I didn't watch the end so good thing I missed Guns N Roses. I turned it off after the Viewer's Choice award was announced! w00t!

Pink was obviously drunk, she didn't even have to tell me that. She was high during her performance too.

Shakira! Damn, she's hot. Somebody told me they got bored watching Shakira. How the hell can you get bored watching that woman shake her hips?

    Christina Aguilera.

I thought the Eminem thing was hilarious. Moby is a nerd. What was Eminem saying to that puppet dog when they tried to talk to him? He just blew them off and was like "Get out of my face". Then they booed him, that was great. "Keep booin you little girl. Cause I will hit a man with glasses".

P Diddy is horrible. And Nas announcing his formation with Murda Inc, very depressing. Nas is a great rapper, Murda Inc is just whack.

I watched bits and pieces (as much as I could stomach).

No, Fallon WASN'T funny (which is odd, because I've seen him be QUITE funny on SNL over the past couple of years).

I just watch stuff like this in amazement. So many of the people up there can't talk, can't really express anything, are winning awards for everything EXCEPT music ability (yeah, yeah...I know: it's the VMA awards, but they're still giving the awards based on MUSIC categories and stuff, not "best hairdo in a pop video" or whatever).

    P. Diddy. Honest to God, what is it about him? What does he do that's so incredible?

Lisa Marie Presley comes slinking out looking like a Skank of the Year nominee wearing a "Bite Me" T-shirt (okay, if you insist).

    The Olsen twins?

People drunk onstage (and copping to it).

Audience screaming and whooping at ANYTHING said by ANYONE. Idiots. Just idiots.

Eminem too surly to even raise his head halfway up.

Shakira. All hips and shaking. Sexy, I guess. Just not particularly impressive or talented.

Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth? Yeah, there's real chemistry. The only bond they share is the mutual desire to kick the living shit out of Edward Van Halen someday. Dave's forehead now goes back to the top of his head, but he's STILL sporting that bleached, frizzy mane that was cool when Motley Crue's first album came out. Loser. And Sammy Hagar is just simply TOO much of a "dude" for me. He just needs to go back to the beach, put on some flip-flops, crank up his axe and pour some tequila. Everytime I think he can't be a more "stuck in adolescence idiot", he goes and proves me wrong.

Britney got the S&M thing going a little bit. She's still ugly, but I was kinda digging on her legs and was having some impure thoughts about them.

And Michael fücking Jackson. Will this guy ever just go away? Hasn't made anything listenable in at least a decade. He was cool for about a year and a half in 1983 or thereabouts. Still dressing like a doofus. Still trying to pawn off that "mystical little boy" schtick he's been flinging on us for 20 years now. Still has a face that looks as though it's ready to peel off at any second now. Go home. Please? Thanks.

I just don't get these people. I sometimes think "okay, it's easy...I'm out of the demographic..." or whatever. But no. TONS of people my age eat this shit up and totally get into it all.

Figures that I miss seeing the one person on the show who performed who actually has any true talent or skills as a musician/writer. Somehow, I had my TV on another channel during Sheryl Crow's performance.

Too bad. She might've made up for the other 2:52 of horseshit.

pscates...ya kill me. I was waiting for your take on this freak show.

Oddly, the only time I switched channels was when Sheryl Crow came on...she does absolutely nothing for me.

As for MJ...you all understand now that he was honored for his 44th birthday...not an "Artist of the Millenium Award"...that G cleff was a cake decoration...

This is why we all love pscates. No offense because I do think she's good, but you didnt't miss much. She seemed a bit off in her performance.

Is it me or did that ish NOT seem live? It was like a movie or something with how they had the cameras/cinematography set up. And the acoustics just didn't do it for me. I didn't like how they did it, made it seem like I was watching "Real World: The Lost Season" or something.

Oh well, the hottest girl won last night. (I'll yet yall take a guess on who I'm talkin about)

I was diggin that Michael Jackson performance...oh wait that was Justin Timberlake.

cinematography was strange, agreed. several times It just had that "taped" look to it. didn't realy like it.

Sheryl Crow was great. Don't know what you're talking about. Not as good as a rendition as it was on America: A tribute to heroes but still damn good and very moving.

Bruce Springstein was a great choice for the opening and I wish I had known he was gonna do it from the hayden Planetarium!!! After they aired that song he continued playing for 90 minutes!!!

Jimmy Fallon was decent. Better than the Wayans but then again who could do worse. Opening was good, from there on it went downhill.

What the hell is Guns N Roses without Slash.. even if Buckethead is amazing as well

Obviously something different as explained by Axel's comments.

I agree with the 'nut: Guns-n-Roses without Slash is like the Rolling Stones without Keith, IMO. Axl - like Mick - seems to be a bit more about the whole image and attention thing. The pulse, heart and soul of BOTH bands comes from Slash and Keith.

The Stones without Keith is the Animals, at best.

And I caught that too, Artman: Jackson thought he was winning "Artist of the Millennium" (when in fact, Britney said the phrases as her little personal opinion and tribute), so he proceeds to give a speech ACCEPTING the honor.

In addition to being a freak, he apparently doesn't listen well either.

As for Sheryl, I've heard mostly good things about it. I put her in the league of the Pettys and Costellos of the world. She doesn't need the big stage thing, lights, explosions, 77 dancers, etc. to come across.

In other words, her thing isn't based on loops, choreography, canned music, pyro, spectacle, etc. like some of those people there. She can sit down - because she can *gasp* play an instrument - and get any of her songs across, either on guitar or piano.

I appreciate and respect that. And people like THAT, I consider true artists or talents.

Maybe I'm just a retro, old-fashioned fart, but if your whole thing is based on NOTHING but effects, samples, loops, tapes, bombast, theatrics, choreography, etc. (like the bulk of the pop charts are today), then I simply don't give a shit. Half the people there last night would probably find it next-to-impossible to "do their thing" without all the noise and window dressing.

Sheryl is going to be around for YEARS. Longer than 80% of those jokers sitting in the audience.

And you know it's true too.

And I forgot to mention Bruce my first post. Well, it's Bruce. I'm not a fan in particular (like much of the universe, I latched on during the "Born in the U.S.A." album and bought that because I liked "Glory Days". Come to find out, a pretty damn good album! "Darlington County" is a GREAT song and my old band used to play the hell out of it!).

But he's a rocker. Anybody that stands there in regular guy clothes and plays a Telecaster and sings his ass off (and actually comes across as though he truly means and believes it) gets my undying, unwavering respect and admiration.

Bruce is Bruce. And a great way to kick off the show. Too bad it sucked from there on out.

Actually Axel has always sounded like that. You are correct that the show was not that good. The guys basically look like cardboard cutouts who can play well but know their place with regard to Axel.

For reference see Anything by David Lee Roth late 80's..

Was it just me or did Axel look visibly winded after performing for what 4 minutes?

I guess 10 years will do that to you.

Guns and Roses will never again be what it was. If for no other reason than the people who were Guns and Roses are no longer in it, and even if they were, they are no longer the same people.

At best they would be an Aerosmith retread. A clean, decent old hairband willing to throw together a rock tune for whatever movie needs it on a soundtrack. They would be smart and savvy enough to know it needs to come in at 3:15, have a good but not too odd guitar solo, and should be hard but not weird or innovative.

Too Fast for Love, Shout at the Devil

Just finished downloading most of these two albums. My first collection of MP3's!

All you limp biskit fans need to listen to these tracks,

-Too young to fall in love

    -Looks that kill

    -Piece of your action

    -Knock'em dead kid

    -Ten seconds til Love

    -Danger

    -Red hot

    -Too Fast for Love

    -Merry go round.

And then go get yourself some

    -Dr Feelgood

    -Kickstart my heart

    -She goes down

    Long live da Crue!
