Do you ever get sick of the internet?

Just curious, because I sure as hell am.

It's just not the same lately. I find myself with my chin resting in an open palm, staring blankly at the screen while I'm mousing through the internet, bored as hell. Like when there's nothing on TV but you watch anyway.

I've been thinking of going offline for a week. Maybe something cool will happen, maybe I'll come back and actually start to enjoy the internet again. Or maybe I'll do it just to see if it's possible. A week without the internet... has anyone ever been brave enough to even TRY it? (going camping for a week does NOT count)

Hmm... sitting at work for a whole week with the computer RIGHT there, but not going online. That would be brutal. I'll have to try it.

Unfortunately, I can't stop going online even if I wanted to.

First of all, there is email which I always need to deal with.

But most importantly, one of my courses this semester is both online and offline. So we usually meet once a week on campus, sometimes every other week, just for a Q&A session mainly. Other than that, the course is online and it's updated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with lecture notes and assignments.

It's actually a pretty cool way to take a class if you already have the basic ideas down.

But if I were to lose my online access, I'd be up a creek without a paddle.

i had some years ago a headache for nearly 4 months. my theory was it ws because i was less than 4 hours a day in net.. (in media 5-15 min / day) .. ... well better be net dependent than .. ... something else dependent.

I'm very bored with the internet right now. AI sucks, other forums suck, I'm sick of reading that the Mets haven't made a deal with the Mariners for Piniella, etc. Also, chatting with people just isn't fun anymore. 200 people on my buddy list and so many of them aren't worth talking to (except for murbot of course).

You know, I was just thinking the same thing, murbot. I don't think it's possible to get away just because of the need to use email, but it would be nice if when I came back from my break things were interesting again. I'm having a hard time finding interesting things to read, cool sites, things that are worthwhile in general on the internet now.

It used to be that I could go to the internet and always find something to interest me, but not lately. :/ Maybe I'm just bored or depressed (working with patients who have been raped repeatedly and now are completely ruined emotionally takes its toll :/)

edit: I forgot to add that this Beck cd is doing nothing to brighten my mood. Good cd, though.

Sometimes I get sick of the internet. Those are the dark times. Those are the times that my mommy cries and I see only through a haze, a mixture of red and the flashing of white and blue lights.

    But the internet loves me.

It loves me, it really does.

Yes I get sick of it but keep being online. I delete most my bookmarks once in a while because I often tend to find interesting stuff when searching something else. I read the news, listen to iRadio, Email take part in Fantasy Soccer games and chat on occasion.

There's just no more innovation anymore. It's becoming more commercial or should I say corporative. It's like it's at an end of a phase, waiting for the next one to take off. What ever that'll be

I am not sick at all because it's so much fun to see someone like you getting frustrated on "What machine I am going to buy?!"

I think people are realizing that the internet really isn't all that useful for things besides e-mail and some information gathering. I find that when I just ask my dad to take my ethernet cable away for a week, my life is really a lot better. I do more things outside of the house with my friends, and the ladies. I get more exercise and generally am a lot happier. Oh, and my productivity goes up probably about 10X. I guess that must say something.

I tend to surf a lot at work now. We have DSL and where I work it is VERY laid back...I work for a wholesaler of papers, pipes, lighters, incense, metaphysical junk and tobacco stuff. Just finished their web site rebuild...

Wish I had broadband at home. Without it the internet is very boring...

Dear oh dear, this is all a bit like the addict who doesn't get the same hit anymore...

I treat the Internet as a big library where I can find useful stuff and communicate with people without getting shouted at by the librarian. I don't expect it to be a substitute for getting out there and interacting with people in the flesh, and I have yet to find an Internet experience which is as satisfying as beer.

Back in the days before many of the AI members were born, I used to come back from class and sit in front of MTV at the lounge of the dorm. This was in the dark days when they actually played music.

The flickering lights and the hip 80s music would slowly unwind the differential equations, signal processing and FORTH from my soft, spongy mind.

That's what the Internet is to me now. MTV was boring back then, and so is the internet today. But I'm still here.

What's this internet thing that you speak of?

Nope. But I can take it or leave it, if that makes sense.

I don't get tired of the internet as a WHOLE, but I do get tired of certain portions of it, and I just stop going to those sites -- or take an indefinitely long break.

Like AI. I haven't been around here much lately. I've just not been real interested lately in coming here. Nothing against you all --well, the folks in Fireside Chat had a *little* to do with it, it's just that I've found better ways to spend my time on the internet...
