Dark lines on my iMac display

Hi all,

Firs of all.. hello! This is my first thread here, I'm sorry it's just asking for help.

I have a 2008 iMac which has recently developed some dark lines along the screen (attached photo, though it's pretty bad). I've done some research and read that this could be due to stale images being 'burnt' onto the screen (easily fixable).

I'm not 100% sure this is what's going on though. I've noticed this more frequently recently and fear it may be a permanent 'feature'. The lines are always in the same place.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Thanks!

If you take a screenshot, do the lines appear on the screenshot? If so, it's your LCD screen. If not, it's your graphics card/chip.

Do you mean that the other way around? The lines don't appear on screenshots, so I assume it's a problem with the screen rather than the graphics chip.
