MacBook Pro Mirror Display Issue

Problem: With my brand new 13in MBP, when attached to a monitor, if I shut the MBP (clam shell) the monitor goes to sleep. I can reactivate it using a click from the mouse or any key from the separate key board (both of which are USB's into the MBP), but the monitor screen only wakes up for a few seconds before going to sleep big-time. After this the only way to see the display is to open up the MBP and bring it out of it's slumber.

I have tried CMD F1 but have the same problem...

What is the secret of having the MBP closed, mouse and keyboard USB's to the closed MBP and the monitor up and running full time?

I have searched the Internet for the answer but have not had any joy yet!

Thanks

We had the same problem. Just needed to have the power cable connected and plugged in to have it work properly. I seem to remember in some earlier systems you did not have to have the power connected.
