The latest Neilsen figures show Android holding a 10 point market share advantage over iOS on smartphones, 36% to 26%, which comes as no surprise. What's more interesting is that these percentages are both 1% lower than the last report. Perhaps there's just no compelling phones right now? Or maybe with 37% of mobile phone owners already owning a smartphone, the huge sales figures attained over the past few months just aren't sustainable anyway?



Other interesting tidbits from the report:



~43 percent of Android smartphone owners and 46 percent of iPhone owners streamed radio or music in the past month.



~79 percent of iPhone owners and 74 percent of Android smartphone owners downloaded apps in the past 30 days.



~37 percent of iPhone users and 35 percent of their Android brethren reported watching video or mobile TV in the past 30 days.



~Android users download more than iPhone owners, averaging 582MB of data consumption each month, compared to 492MB for iPhone owners.

Market share figures don't tell us anything about total sales numbers. Smart phones sales could quadruple in a given period and not move the market share numbers at all.
