Connecting usb printer to Airport Extreme

I'm having no luck in getting my Brother HL 1850 printer to work with my Airport Extreme---the extreme recognizes it, but the printer won't work--



If I connect it to an old Airport Express it works fine---



I can leave it this way, no problem, but I'm curious why I'm having such difficulty--



Anybody having luck with printers connected to Airport Extreme?

    I have a Epson Stylus CX6400 that I am trying to connect to my Airport Extreme USB but It does not seam to see it. Does it have to be an Air capable?
