Data Transferring!!!

I have a friend (no, it's really not me!) who needs to transfer his files from his Rev. B iMac to new Combo iBook. What's the best way to do that? Can he hook them up using ethernet cables?

Thanks!

your friend can use a crossover cable and AppleTalk to do it. I'm pretty sure there is a tutorial on Apple's site somewhere about that.

I'm sure that I will be corrected if I am incorrect, but the combo drive iBook has the ability to sense which type of cable and which type of connection is being used, and will automatically switch the signal to work no matter if you have a crossover or regular ethernet cable. So that means that you can use any ethernet cable to transfer files.

You're almost right. Any of the dual USB ibooks auto-sense and switch to accomodate. So do the TiBooks and I believe the towers, too.

Well, you said the combo drive iBook has the auto-sensing port. I was just extending that to include all (not just the combo drives) of the dual USB iBooks.

Yea the whole pointing people to threads who are to fscking laze to LOOK for a thread on the EXACT same topic with MANY helpful replies already wouldn't fit in here with AI "Look I started a topic aint I cool" culture.
