Office v.X - Apps WON'T Launch

I having trouble installing Office 2001 v.X and it is driving me nuts. I have installed, uninstalled and re-installed and only Entourage will launch. I get an error message saying the application has quit unexpectedly whenever I try to launch Word, Excel or PowerPoint.



I am running OS 10.1.2 on a G3 PowerBook 500MHz with 640 MB of RAM. I have also run a full diagnostic with Drive 10 which fixed any problems I may have had. Yet, I still can't get the Apps to launch. Even installing Office on my iPod and launching from there produced the same issues.

Do the apps not launch at all? Or do they launch and immediately "unexpectedly quit" as soon as it starts to load the Project Gallery window?



I recall reading something about the latter. I don't know if I can help if it's the former, though.



By the way, Drive 10 is utter crap for fixing disks. Try fscking your disk in single-user mode. DiskWarrior has proven to be the best disk repair utility both in my own personal experience and from what I've read on the web (though, it runs in OS9).



As a last resort, you can clear your launch services. Go to your home Library folder and delete the three files that start with LS. Log out, log back in, wait a minute or two (there may be some disk activity as apps are recataloged), log out, and log back in. That sometimes helps fix apps that refuse to launch.
