don't know what to tell you, i have that problem sometimes, but it isn't the same drive that came with my computer. usually it has to do with the apple cd/dvd extention being on, but sometimes it just does it for kicks. restarting usually clears everything up for me.

this probably isn't much help to you. sorry.

good luck.

My ibook (koobi, ibook 500/cd-rw/384) has its first servicable problem!!

I was cleaning it as usual, when I noticed the CD-RW wouldn't open. So I gave it the paperclip, and it popped open, no problem.

But it wont shut anymore, it just bounces back open and beeps (not the system, the drive actually squeals).

I know the drive is working fine otherwise because I held the door shut with a CD in it and it mounted fine.

I called Apple Tech Support and they say it could be misaligned inside. I'm thinking the locking mechanism is shot or something. I would rather not part with it for too long. That might be the case if they make me mail it in

Well, its taped shut right now, no sense to stop using it if everything else works fine, I'm taking it to the Apple Store or a local repair center saturday..

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, lemme know. Wish me luck

Nice that someone from the early 90's could help me (look at the post date)

I took my ibook to a support place, and here's something FREAKY that happened...

    hope all works out ok.

(p.s. i've been cruising around in my time machine, and didn't bother to return to 2002 before i responded to your message. was still chilling in the 90s. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" /> )
