ok i know there are always a lot of well my friend told me this and i dont know if he can tell me anymore but this is what happened and it is true, wheter he is telling the truth i have no idea. and to start off he doesnt know im a mac guy. ok here we go. my managewr at radioshack that we just got in last week is talking to me about business because i complained that we werent going to get any more of the fancy pens and we were getting the ghetto pens. somehow we get into talking about his dads business. this is what he said" my dad's company makes only two chips, they are used as a standard in almost every electronics item that uses a battery. they go next to the battery clip"

so im supposed to be impressed with that but there was one guy at the store who was ceo of not one but two companies and wqorked retail cuz he was bored. neway, ken says that moto made a stupid move, and i just look at him blankly. so he smiles and says his dads company bought motos semi conductor section. then he kinda raises his voice and says they are so stupid for selling their most profitable sector. and he goes on and on about how its small part of the company but brings in so much money and blah blah blah. and then he starts talking about how we have to rearange the store in the summer. just thought id drop this by some people who care. if you wnt i can ask for details, it doesnt seem like he is not supposed to say anything. and even if he isnt he has a big mouth anyway

Just for confirmation- the son of the ceo of the company that just bought out a mulit-million dollar semi-conductor division of Moto shops at RadioShack?

Is that like Gates going to Wal-Mart for some batteries?

not to be rude or anything but don't you think you would have heard that one of the world's largest comporations sold off it's semiconductor unit if they really did?

sorry about the grammar i am a rambling type person and typing is horrible because i cant type fast enough to get out what my brain is saying. second ken is my manager yes. y he is here, he told one of the other managers that he intends to be the dm or district manger in two years after that he wants to be the regional manager. the dm position in my district is good because we are in the top 5 districts in the nation for radio shack in almost every category so the dm makes a lot of maoney. anyway i guesse he just wants to go out and prove himself. third i thought id check with you to see if nething happened that i missed this week, have been in tune with the world for a while. btw is it possible they only sold a certain part or maybe one of their techs in stead of the whole section. kinda goes against what ken said by the their whole semi conductor profit deal but hey i dont know it could happen right?

Well, considering Moto's SPS has been hemorraging money the last few years, they hardly qualify as their most profitable part. Sorry, myahmac, but this just smells of mendacity. I'm not buying it for a second. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

The closest chip after the battery clip is most certainly just a simple resistor or voltage regulator and not some die ahrd chip that only one company knows how to make etc.

Also, if Moto, one of the biggest beasts in the industry still, sold any of their divisions, you'd know it 5 minutes before they do in every damn newspaper around the world.

Get a life dude, and stop believing everything you're told.

In my childhood neighborhood we talked about who had the strongest man in the world as father, who had a car with jet engines and who had more than one trillion dollars.

And in yours you talk about which father bought the semiconductor division of Mot?

IS it just because time has changed or is it because you grow up in a totally different neighborhood than I did?

Actually, your poor grammar destroys your credibility. If your brain actually processes information that quickly, it is powerful enough to read over your material and edit it for legibility. Of course, it could be that you're just too lazy to do that. As it stands, you come across as one who doesn't know what he is talking about.

    Alright, here's the deal:

The first part is fact, and can be checked by anyone capable on the net.

Motorola sold its DESCRETE semi business to On Semi a couple of years back. I am sure that if this conversation really took place, this is what they were refering to. It also makes sense regarding simple parts for battery regulation. (Descrete semi mean individual transistors, diodes, etc.; NOT processors).

The second bit you will have to take on faith, but I know it to be true as I was recently an employee of Mot (Thank God I got out on my own).

Chris Galvin and the head of SPS sent out a memo to employees recently that they were aware of the rumors of them selling SPS, but that they had no such intentions.

Now, whether or not that is true, or whether or not they change there mind tomorrow is an entirely different subject.

    Just setting the record straight.

(been around the boards since '99, just never really post. This time I was supprised no one else that knew bothered to post yet.)

first i am not a troll, a gullible teenager yes. and yes i am very lazy and dont go back over what i write usualy once it is there its there. but im not smart enough to actualy think about what im writing i just kinda type. oh well. n-e-way, like i said b4 i dont know pretty much anything since ive been either at work or at school all week. but if it is possible that on semi or whatever bought it doesnt that mean that my manger might be telling the truth? its not like we were competing or nething, i mean my dad is just a local manger at lockheed martin. but n-e-way if you say they only sold some small parts then is it not worth asking him about anything on monday about processors, if that is still in moto?

I think the message then, is get your facts straight (at least as straight as you can) before posting something like this. Motorola, being a very large company, very likely sold *something* to *somebody* recently. It was almost certainly not their SPS, but perhaps they sold the rights to some technology or something like that. You probably are guilty of no more than jumping to conclusions based on incomplete or misunderstood information (something most of us here are guilty of at one time or another). You'll find most folks here are rather skeptical (many downright cynical) about information posted, so don't let the strong reactions dissuade you from posting something in the future.

However (as bsharp suggested), clean up your writing style if you want to be believable in the future. We have no idea who or where you are. The only thing we know about you is what is written in your post - and how your write it is almost more important than what your write. If you want to appear intelligent, educated, and knowledgable, write clearly, use proper grammar and spelling, and structure your posts in a way that shows some thought and consideration. I found your initial post rather difficult to believe simply because it read like someone who really hadn't thought out what he was writing and likely was confused. After writing a post, go back and reread it to make sure it sounds the way you want it to.

So, thanks for the effort, anyway. Ask your manager or your Dad or whoever about what you thought you heard and maybe they can clarify it for you. I would be interested to hear what the result is.
