idle_threa is freaking me OUT!!!

okay, here I am looking at top running in my terminal. At the very bottom I see a command running called "idle_threa", now what is freaking me out is that I'm seeing its %CPU up in the 188% area!!! I've been looking at it like that for a number of minutes. The only reason it hasn't gone up to the closer to the 200% mark is that I'm running a few applications. It grabs what it can.

So I have a few questions:

What is "idle_threa"?

Should it be there?

If it isn't, how do I get rid of it? :confused:

Also, an interesting fact is that its PID is 0. At the same time that "kernel_tas" PID is also 0!!!

0 kernel_tas 0.9% 2:48.94 24 0 - - - 61.1M 703M

0 idle_threa 128.3% 8:53:35

    Could it mean idle threads?

    Think about the name of it... idle thread.

    Then look at it and look at the "idle" percent of your CPU on the second line of top. [edit - well, on dual processor macs, you should double the number up top and then compare it to "idle_threa"]

    Make any more sense to you now?

    Here's an example of what I have now:[code]Load Avg: 0.18, 0.07, 0.00 CPU usage: 5.2% user, 5.7% sys, 89.1% idle

    0 idle_threa 178.0% 65:27:50

    idle CPU is 89.1

    89.1 * 2 == 178.2

    idle_thre is 178

    hmmmm....

    well...I guess it's time to call it quits. I have obviously been up way to far past my bedtime. if it weren't 3AM where I am, I would probably most likely have seen that. thank you for demonstrating my ignorance, or is it my incompetence? oh well, time to hit the sack for me then.
