Easy Retro-Retrieve

I have a PowerMac 6100 and a ibook2 running 9/OSX



I want to get the data off the older machine... But It has no monitor...



Is there any way of retrieving this data via USB...



start-up shortcuts, target disk mode, anything...



I dont feel like going out and buying an adapter for the one PC monitor I have...



I am looking for a real easy solution...

    Don't suppose the 6100 already has filesharing turned on does it? Or Timbuktu?



    If so you could just run it headless and use a cross over ethernet cable to network the two machines.



    Short of that I'd think of borrowing someone's adapter...



    Or pulling the hard drive and popping it into another SCSI Mac.

    How would I do that... just plug'em together... then what...?

    OK assuming that Filesharing is already on on the 6100 you would just plug the two machines together with a Cross Over Ethernet cable.



    Then on the iBook select the 6100 from the Chooser using AppleTalk entering your user name and password.



    Some models of Macs won't boot headless. They are set to detect a monitor if they don't find one they don't boot.



    You can either use an adaptor to trick it into thinking there is a monitor or you can jump the monitor pins with a bit of wire to trick it into thinking there is a monitor there.

    I can't find the site that I used to learn which pins to jump the monitor myself but do a search on "headless mac" and you'll turn it up...
