Is there a way to control a computer via FTP?

O.k I have a tough question here. I have a mac on home and on my work a pc. I can acces the pc from home via ftp.But here comes the hard part.How can I control the PC from my mac?I'll be more specific.

I want the PC to open a 3dapplication and render the file I have just sent from my home. Is this possible???

I can't promise because Ihaven't tried it but the app I've been looking at to do this kind of thing is called VNC (virtual network computing).

It lets you run programs on a remote computer and it is cross platform.

hmmm, actually that was to control an OS X box through OS X. I think. Not sure.
