Is there a way to password protect just one folder in OS X versus the whole hard drive? I want to make sure my kids can't get into my work stuff.

Sure. Make sure your kids are using other login accounts. Don't give them administrator access.

Change the permissions via the Finder's getinfo window so that "others" do not have permission to read/write.

Then you can stash all your porn away.

Seriously, though, he's right about using a different account. That's definitely the easiest thing to do.

Here is another great solution. Create a read/write disk image using disk copy, and encrypt it with a password. You can keep your "work" on the disk image. This also keeps everything safe in OS 9.
