help viewer wont start

When I start the apple help viewer app by selecting "mac help" it immediately crashes upon startup. I'm running 10.1.4 on a G4 733. Everything else seems to be working fine. It will work if I select "help" when running a 3rd party app but if I select it from the finder or an apple app it immediately crashes. Any help would be great.
