iBook & iMac video out port compatibility

Does the iMac video-out port support the Video-out dongle for the iBook?

(the new dongle with composite & s-video out ports, not the old A/V dongle)

Has anyone tried this. I asked on another thread and got flamed, then ignored. WTF.

Thanks for your help!

(unless you dont help, then I am indifferent to you... )

no, the video out port on the iBook looks like a headphone jack actually it IS a headphone jack (right? i could be wrong i dont actually have an iBok in front of me....)

also, there is another video out port on the iBooks I believe that this is just miniVGA---> VGA so i dont think it would be of much help for an iMac... :/ i hope this helps...

What I understand (or thought i did) was that the new line of iBooks have the mini-vga connector which looks just like the one on the iMacs. AND that they use two dongles with this mini-VGA port: One for 'composite and s-Video output', another for a full-size VGA connector.

This is only with the latest revision of icebooks... Previously, I think the old iBooks used a mini-plug that had an A/V dongle (audio and video respectively, no VGA out) and that is what you are referring to Paul (I think).

any new iBook owners out there... am I talking out of my butt?

    thx

    ...Clarification...

the original icebooks had the A/V output which looks similar to a standard audio mini-plug.

the new ones have seperated Audio and Video. Now they have a mini-plug audio output port (headphone jack), and the seperate mini-VGA which supports all other methods of video output (composite, s-video, vga).

ill just phone an apple store or something, i think im just confusing people more...

OK just looked @ both the iMac and iBook websites @ apple... the new iBook changed, now the audio and video are separated, like you said...

and it DOES seem to look like BOTH miniVGA connectors can be used on the iBook AND iMac... but I dont know for sure...

Offtopic: do BOTH connectors come with the iBook?

Nope, just the full size VGA dongle. The A/V is $30CAN (prolly $20US). Not bad, if I end up with an iBook it may well be because of the ability to output analog video to a VCR.

Hey Paul, Im going to go to a Mac store today (MyMacDealer, not an apple store) and find out from 'the-guy-that-works-for-the-store-that-sells-stuff-from-the-huge-company-that-is-run-by-the-Horse's-mouth'. about as close as I can get to said Horses-mouth from here.

    Thanks for the effort

The guys at the dealer i visited did not know about the adapter compatibility and did not have a dongle to test on the iMac.

Oh well, anyways after that i found a wicked deal on a ibook 600DVD and bought that so my question is moot now.

love the iBook by the way...
