to make the cursor vanish?

Tell me - is there a way to make the cursor disappear from a Mac screen (in OS9 or X). The reason I would want such a wacky thing is for touch-screens - which can be retrofitted on iBooks and such - but when you touch the screen, you are left with a cursor where you touched - tacky! "This can be disabled in PCs" they tell me - help!

    No help. Sorry.

But please tell me where you have found a touch screen for the iBook. I have great plans for my Pismo when I get my next PB.

That's an interesting problem. I'm not sure about X, but 9 just might be possible. There are numerous extension hacks that turn your cursor into something ELSE, but I haven't found any that make it disappear. The different cursors can be seen with ResEdit when you use it to open the extension, and it should be fairly straightforward to simply make each resource blank, instead of a little picture.

For X, there may be a solution as well. I'm sure the OS stores its mouse icons somewhere, you'd just have to find them and do the same thing.

I'll try out my hacked version of Laser Pointer Cursor and let you know if I have any luck.

I got it to work. I can make the cursor disappear in 9 now. I left in the watch cursor (so that you can tell when your computer's working), but I could just as easily take that out as well, just tell me what you'd like. If you'll give me an email address I'd be happy to send over my hacked extension.

No news on X yet. I'll poke around when I get the chance.

this reminds me of a funny thing that happened. my friend and i were trying to write a game, and 1 aspect of it was making it fullscreen w/o cursor, but when i was debugging the cursor didn't return. Well, i spose it doesn't read nearly as funny to you guys as it actually played out in life. But, anyway, its def'ly possible on macx. If I remember I could write a little proggie tonite (or if i'm bored i'll write it during work, hehe).

a touchscreen sounds amazingly kewl by-the-way.

Anders: The people in-the-know at my company aren't here this late, but I will ask tommorrow and post again to this thread

jrego: You're awesome. Can you make the cursor completely disappear, no clock, no nothing? If you can, you could send to [email protected]

    When I think about this, it sounds like a good April Fool's joke too - too bad it isn't next year yet  <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" /> <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />
