I'm a pc user, but i do have a g4 dp500@600. I was wondering if i should purchase the rumored updated G4 systems, or wait for a G5. From what i've gathered, the G5 isn't even near completion or ready for implementation.

Any suggestions?

*update oops sorry, please move this thread!

wait until the end of this month to see if those new systems do come out. i'd personally wait until they get some new RAM in the towers before i spent any money on them, right now they aren't worth it.

however, you're usually better off buying now rather than waiting. if you don't like the machines that come out in a few weeks, then wait. if you like them, buy them sooner rather than later.

it'll just give you more time at the top of the heap.

G5 should be out sometime in 2004 or 2005. Apple will announce 1.5 GHz and then only ship 1.0 GHz and try to charge the same price. Right after you open the new box Apple will comeout with OS X 1.3 and charge you $200 to "upgrade" to take "full use" of your G5.

    Good luck with Apple.

I think you are putting it too far. Now, I think you should wait until there is a G5. I won't even think about upgrading until there is a 2Ghz machine. Even though Macs can be used for about 6-7 years before upgrading is absolutely neccesary, I do not want to wait that long.

    OR

Just buy the next upgrade or wait until the next upgrade has a deal on it...and those are being upgraded and you will be in the same positiion you are in now....

Damn: It is just like when I bought Wide Rulled and then all my friends were using Colleged Ruled <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" /> <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

It sounds like you have a very capable G4 as it is and I don't think it would be worth it to drop three grand on a DP 1gig G4 right now. With a system as good as your's already is, why not wait for the G5?

I guess if you don't need necessarily a new mac yet then you can wait...

I had to get a g3.. as i needed an ibook.

    never more windows

    (used it for 10 years..)

If you have no hurry it's better for you...

I couldn't wait for g5 but will be happy when it one day comes out...
