iBook Memory Question...

Hi guys,

I am thinking of swapping my 350MHz slot loading iMacfor a 700MHz iBook with combo drive soon. I noticed that the iBook takes PC100 memory. Does this mean that I can take the 256MB chip out of my iMac and it will work perfectly in my iBook, or are there different kinds of PC100 memory? Thanks <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

If your imac uses pc100 notebook memory, than yes, if not NO. Also

I don't if any one else had this problem with there ibooks, but if and when you get it, make sure you have a very small set of philips head

screw drivers handy. The small as screws that cover the memory slot were in there pretty tight. Other wise have fun, its a sweet machine.

Eye glass repair kits are what I used on the iBooks (to remove the upper plate above the memory) back when I worked for an Apple Service Provider

What kind of iMac do you have?

Here is the break down as to what iMacs use the memory you'd need

Slot loading - Won't work, physical size difference in memory (DIMM)

Tray loading - Correct memory size (SO-DIMM) but sometimes pc66, sometimes pc 100 depending on if the user upgraded

--G4 iMac - The user accessible slot (smaller SO-DIMM chip) will work.
