to upgrade or buy emu?

er, anew.

Anyhow,

My beige G3 is kinda tired. He's got 320mb ram in him, an 8gb hard drive, cd-rom, zip and a very average / below average video card. Could probably sell him for $200-$300 on fleabay from the looks of things.

I could either put in a G4/450 Upgrade Card for ~ $250 + a 20-40GB hard drive for ~ $75 + a CD-RW ($150 ?), for a total of around $500. I'd probably want to upgrade the video too, bringing the total cost to $600. So for $600 (i think) i could have:

G4 450

~ 30GB Hard Drive

320MB ram

CD-RW

Radeon Graphics

or i could throw the whole thing in and get this from smalldog.com for $799:

Graphite iMac

G3 600Mhz

256MB ram

40GB Hard Drive

CD-RW

??? Graphics

if i could get $200 for my powermac as is, that would mean my total cost for the imac would shrink to $599.

The imac uses a 100mhz system bus and the beige powermac a 66mhz system bus. Would a G4 450 on a 66mhz bus run better or worse than a G3 600mhz on a 100mhz bus? Plus, how would graphics card performance play into all of this.

I would be doing the upgrading so i could install OS X, because I am using 9.2.2 and seem to be the last of a dying breed.

Advice on which way to go here? Another thing to consider is I have a 19" AppleVIsion plopped on my desk and I don't know what i would do with it...probably not worth selling on ebay.

Help!

I picked up an iMac DV 400mhz Lime with 192 ram and applecare until next september (2003) for $400. Sound like a good buy? It was on ebay, so I think I will use escrow.com. Peace of mind is certainly worth $15 to me!
