Asante AL1011 Wireless Card and OS X

Hi -

I have a PowerBook G3 Bronze Key and a (yes, I know, it is going to be replaced by a 17" iMac if it ever comes ) Compaq Presario. They can both talk to eachother over an ad-hoc network just fine when the PowerBook is running OS9, but I can't make them talk to each other in OS X. I have downloaded and installed the proper driver from Asante's website (which is a beta). However, I can not find a way to set it up as an ad-hoc network in OS X. Is it possible that it works in a similar fashion as Windows XP, and uses an OS X control panel to configure this? Apple says on their website that some third-party cards can be configured using the AirPort utility, but when I try this, it tells me that no AirPort card is installed and gives me a link to the Apple Store. I am running OS X 10.1.5 with all the latest updates. Please help!!!

P.S. Sorry if I wasn't too clear, I hope somebody understands it enough to help!
