Removing/Uninstalling Installed Components

Just now I turned on my iBook and it got hung up THREE times. The first time it was hung up on "Starting Accounting". I dont want to remove that because i know that thats an apple component and that OS X needs it. The second time it was "Starting Retrospect Startup Helper". And the third time it was DAVE. How do i remove Retrospect and DAVE? By using the terminal? And if this the wrong forum to post this in then please place it in the right one.
