Pismo OS X Sound issues

Hello everyone,

I just a got a Pismo 500 and am running 10.2. Everything is great except for some sound problems. It sounds as if when a sound plays, the system has to play "catch up", so the sound comes out garbled, or part of it is not played. Is there anyway to fix it, and more importantly, what is it?

thanks,

steve

I'm usually quite annoyed by Defiant when he gets into his enigmatic riddly mood, through which the asker of a technical question should understand they gave not enough info, but in this case, it'not be out of place to ask for just that:

what app exactly is messing up your sound?

how many other progs are you actively using at the same time?

how much RAM do you have?

out of the blue, maybe, it'd say it's a ram deficit or (which is mostly the same) bit of cpu overload.

    alright, alright

well, that sounds exactly like that what our friend said, that the processor has to play "catch-up" with the music, or that you have too few RAM.

the absolute minimum for a G3 is, IMHO, 256 MB RAM. It would be the best if you push the ammount of RAm to the max, which is in your case, 1 GB. A reseller would be Crucial which wants 235$ for a 512MB module for your PB. (you gave almost enuff info... hehe).

I would really recommend you that you provide us with more info, but at the same time I would recommend you that you put more RAM in that baby.

sorry for not providing enough information.

The Pismo has 384mb of RAM, and this problem has occured when I'm running only two applications, Mail and IE 5.2.

specifically, the Submarine sound in the Mail app was delayed the last time, when i had new mail.

I don't think this is serious. I had it all the time running 10.1.2 through to .5 (Server!) on my Pismo 400 with 196 MB of RAM.

Often had to wait for swapping for hours on end. Toe-curling. The patience. The horror. The sheer desire to throw the damn thing through a high-up window.

I've heard some people claim that something like 512 MB of RAM is the minimum preferred pray the Jaguar likes to devour before wanting to do anything... maybe...

(but it might be Mail, for there I had the problem - I bet your MP3's in iTunes play allright, mostly?)
