there is a way but it's neither easy or particularly safe...

basically you have to use a program like Iconographer to edit a file called SystemIcons.rsrc which is buried in System/Library/.... somewhere.

It's a file that holds all the default icons for 10.2.

You can use Iconographer to edit as many of them as you want.

These are by no means detailed instructions.

i accept no responsibility for you screwing you're system.

    The precise item is System/Library/CoreServices/SystemIcons.bundle/Contents/Resources/iMac.icns

I cheated totally by swapping the original iMac icon for one of a Cube named iMac.icns. Works a treat, and I haven't seen any stability problems as a result. I used Iconoographer to create an image in .icns format. No messing in command line, root user or anything weird, simply dump it in there, restart the Finder and off you go.

<a href="http://www.iconfactory.com/cb_home.asp"; target="_blank">CandyBar</a> is the safest way - and reversable, too. My pals at IconFactory made it with the dudes from panic: very impressive.
