DVD Playback from Hard drive on iBook

I've been trying to play my (commercial)DVDs from the hardrive on my 700 MHz ibook, 20GB, 384MB, 10.2.1, using DVD player 3.2 from VIDEO_TS files.

However, the playback is horrible, slow, stalls, etc. the audio skips as well, and the image either freezes or does not show at all, in any of the screen sizes.

Is this a limitation of my system, some sort of copy protection (last time I tried this I copied the VIDEO_TS file from my LOTRings DVD, leaving 2.6GB free on the hard drive), or some system config problem?

I would have thought hard drive playback would be faster and more reliable, and certainly better for battery life.

Thanks for the help!

It must be copy protection. Did you just copy it to your hard drive from the DVD?

You need something like <a href="http://opuscc.com/download/FTP/D1345789/DVDBackup1.2.sit"; target="_blank">DVDBackup</a> to put it on your hard drive.

Yes, I just dragged the VIDEO_TS file to the hard drive,

I'll try DVD Backup, many thanks for the suggestion!
