Airport Card question

Are there different types of airport cards?

I'm thinking especially of the fact that there are v1 and v2 Base Stations. Does this apply to the cards as well?

Are there differences with respect to the mac you wish to use them in? (I will use one in my iBook)...

    The original Aiport Cards were only 40-bit encryption capable (like the original base stations). The current ones support 128-bit encryption. Other than that they seem functionally interchangable. However it should be possible to upgrade the original cards to 128bit (according to the link below), although I'm not sure how to do this. I only mention this so that if you get one of the 40-bit cards, but need 128bit, you know there is a possible solution.

    "AirPort 2.0 software can upgrade original AirPort Cards to support 128-bit encryption (encryption for original AirPort Base Stations will remain 40-bit). Software Update will auto install AirPort 2.0, or you can download manual installers for both Mac OS X and Mac OS 9." from <a href="http://www.maconline.com/airport.html"; target="_blank">http://www.maconline.com/airport.html</a>;
