I am changing the HD in our imac and want to back up the mail messages. Question is; where are the mail messages stored in osx? I want to copy them to my g4 tower and reinstall them after the new system and HD install. Thanks for any help, Randy
You may find you end up receiving all your emails again after reinstalling OS X anyway, depending on your Mail preferences and ISP.
When I reinstalled OS X (pre Jaguar), I received all my emails again, including attachments, sent to me in the previous few months.
By default, under Jaguar (Mail 1.2), they seem to be left on the email server for only one week after being retrieved (Mail Preferences - Accounts - Edit Account - Advanced tab - Remove Copy From Server After Retrieving A Message).
Under OS X the emails seem to be held in your home folder / Library / Mail. I'm not sure whether simply copying INBOX.mbox etc will work though.
