    Yes, actually!

I remember hearing rumors about widescreen versions of the 17inch, but is this hardware expected for MWNY?

There were reports of a 17" widescreen 16:9.6 panel from LG or Samsung, but I doubt you're gonna see it in a mac. It's res was 1280x768, which works out to about 25% less real estate than the current 17" studio display.

Hmmm... in that case, I wonder if they'll consider adding an intermediate option between the 17inch and the 22inch...

Maybe a 19 or 20 inch widescreen? (wishful thinking)

With component prices on the rise, I don't know why Apple doesn't leverage by using the same screen from the PB on the iMac.

let's assume for a second that Apple is not completly deaf and actually listened to it's customers.

That would mean the new PB should have a 15.4ish" 1600x1024 screen.

Now this would be a great screen to stick into the iMac as well. it gives 20% more desktop than a 1280x1024 and yet is still very compact and light.

I would buy one right away.

The iMac has always seemed very similar to the PB in featureset I don't see why that would stop now.

I highly doubt any new displays are in the near future.

While it's necessary to offer distinct product lines, Apple doesn't seem to give us the benefit of the doubt when it comes to options.

They seem to think that anything more than 3 options will simply confuse consumers. Thus a wide 17" would just muddy the picture.

The same logic could apply to almost their enitre product line.

    Go figure.

well, i'm pretty sure the 22" ACD IS a widescreen 17." It's as tall (almost) as the 17" with a bunch of pixels added on each side to make it to the correct screen ratio

or maybe you're talking about a 17" cinema display from one corner to the other, approxametly the height as the 15", then that's another story.

if that's the case, then i'd say apple would need to drop one of the other monitors, most likely the 15." but i don't like that secenario. i don't really think/know that people would like a widescreen lcd. some people are probably content with a normal sized screen.

now, if apple would lower the price on the 22" by atleast $500, that's be awesome. they'd get a lot more sales. true, they have sold it before for $2000 with a powermac, but if someone goes and see's they can get a 22" widescreen LCD for $2000 (not pocket change, though), apple would get more sales. $2000 is the the barrier i've pretty much set before think about the ACD.....

What if Apple killed the 15" LCD and made their lineup 17", 19", 22", and 23"? All widescreen.

Granted this will not happen until LCD prices fall again, but it would be a great lineup. 15" is really too small for a "pro" display.

And offer a 17" iMac LCD already! Consumers have only been clamoring for one since the original iMac debuted! WTF, does Apple not want to sell iMacs or something?

I think its pretty obvious that they will be dropping the 22" display soon. It doesn't make sense to have both a 22" and 23" display in there.

    Widescreen iMac? Naaaah.

You're right, I should have posted,

    17"

    19"

    23"

    All widescreen profile LCDs.

This is the Apple display lineup I'd like to see...although I should add that I would NEVER buy an Apple LCD display because they are so overpriced. I'd rather spend hundreds less for a larger, better display.

For sure! I promise you, I and a million other Mac users would buy such a computer. A 17" LCD iMac would be the most awesome consumer Mac ever created by Apple.

The current iMac is ok, but that tiny display is the deal breaker for me. I'm used to a 19" CRT, and there is no way I could ever step down to a 15" viewable display, it's too small.

Contrary to what Steve Jobs seems to believe, size DOES matter, to both men and women alike!

i think that having a $100 option to get a wide screen display for the imac would be fine, but apple is better off with a clear, conscise product line.

and if they get rid of the 22" display, hopefully they'll try to fire sell them at $1500....i'm there in a second.

Max8319, yeah, I was thinking replacement for the 1024x768 res screen, but obviously that won'th happen. Apple's margins are on the iMac thinner than they like already.

A 17" iMac may not be so unlikely in the future.

However, what is highly unlikely is that anyone with the current 15" iMac could bring it into a authorized dealer and have it upgraded to the 17" LCD monitor.

Now that would be sweet. But then again, that wouldn't be very Apple.
