For those of you following Apple's market cap...

Brian White from Topeka Capital Markets keeps insisting it'll break a trillion... with a $1,111 price target.

I think that seems like a crazy prediction, but Apple is already on the brink of breaking MSFT's record ($618.9B nominal) according to this website, and it's only been going uphill... Not sure if any of you have stumbled upon this site but it should be fun to watch it Tick over the $1,000,000,000,000 mark, in Apple-style nonetheless.

Now, that record market cap, is that just to stick it to Microsoft specifically? Because that's not the world record market cap of all companies.

Hmmm, well actually if you follow the link near the bottom of the page, it directs you to http://finance.yahoo.com/news/apple-market-value-hits-600b-151007997.html

An Associated Press article which states:

    Quote:

Only one other company has been worth $600 billion — Apple's old sparring partner Microsoft Corp. It reached that valuation for 13 trading days around the turn of the millennium, at the peak of the technology stock mania.

And it later states the $619B amount.  So it looks like Apple actually is pretty close to setting the all-time record, as far as I can tell.

Also worth mentioning... the $846B figure is adjusted for inflation, also according to that same Yahoo! article.

PetroChina hit $1 trillion a while ago. Maybe they ignore that for whatever reason.

Last paragraph states, although somewhat roundabout...

    Quote:

China's largest oil company, PetroChina, was briefly worth $1 trillion after it listed on the Shanghai stock exchange in 2007, but only based on its price on that exchange. Its shares also trade in Hong Kong and on the New York Stock Exchange. Based on trading there, its market capitalization has never reached $500 billion.

Either way, when Apple breaks $1T, this won't matter ;)
