my ti800 has suddenly decided to get its

fan running nearly all the time

im sitting in bed reading a web page & holding

the pb so theres nothing obstructiing it underneath & the turbine comes on

close brower & wait & the sound is still there

this is ridiculous the fan is not supposed to

come on this quick.

previously it never came on until i was running

win2k under vpc & a compile at the same time.

is that a rant or a question?

if it's a rant, we don't need you here.

if it's a question, you're in the wrong forum

    whos "we" ?

you are hardly in a position to judge people

    much less threaten them

if you dont like the post dont read it

its a genuine tech issue & hence correctly posted

    in the appropriate forum.

Same problem here. I took mine into a repair, and they said that the 'Heat Sensor' in this particular model of powerbook is faulty, some work, some don't. Unless you can find some instructions to replace the fan or sensor I guess your stuck.

Anyone else have anything on this?

whats really annoying is ill have a few pdfs

    open & win2k running under vpc & compiling a

delphi or c++ project under that & the fan wont come on at all

the next time i only have a browser open & the damm thing sounds like turbine starting up

its driving me nuts beacuse i cant figure exactly

whats causing the fan to kick in at times & not

    at others

btw when your pb gets really hot does the airport

    card conk out ?

My Ti800 went nuts with its fans for a little while after installing 10.2. But then it just went away after about a week. Check Apple's PowerBook forums - there were some threads on it, and there were a number of other people with similar problems.

i've got the same problem now with an 800, i'm bringing mine in to an Apple store within a week or so to have it looked at. (it has some other issues as well)

i'll let you know what they tell me.
