Finger print sensor in new iPhone?

Ok, so this is a copy of a thread from MR, but I figured it would spark a more 'in depth' discussion here!

First post here, but what do people think; is the cut away I've highlighted in my image a position for the Authentec AES2750? (http://www.authentec.com/a/Production/smartsensors_mobile/AES2750.aspx), remember Apple now owns Authentec, the company which manufactures the AES2750.

Here's Authentec's brief description of the AES2750:

Quote:

World’s first fingerprint sensor designed specifically for mobile wallets; combines strong fingerprint security and encryption in a narrow and durable package.

AuthenTec’s new ‘made for mobile commerce’ smart sensor, the AES2750, adds strong but effortless security today’s NFC mobile wallets. It incorporates the best features of previous AuthenTec smart sensor designs, including a wide 192 pixel by 8 pixel fingerprint sensor array, with many new features including hybrid fingerprint matching (on sensor match + host match) and encryption in a narrow package for easy and inexpensive integration. http://www.authentec.com/a/Productio...e/AES2750.aspx

It looks to me like the cut away I've highlighted has a protective film covering the glass beneath, if the film is removed, the sensor can operate through the glass. The hole looks to be a perfect fit for the Authentec sensor.

And we see the mystery cut out again in today's latest leaked images.

The way I see it is that there are only 3 possabilities for this mystery hole:

  • Cut away is a space for finger print sensor in iphone 5

  • Cut away is for another component

  • Cut away isn't for anything

RFID Antenna under apple logo? Could this address the concerns in the Anandtech article (http://www.anandtech.com/show/6196/preparing-for-the-iphone-next-rumors-analyzed/4)?

Not likely, they just acquired a new fingerprint scanning company, but it was for something else related to the new iPad coming out next year. At most we'll get photobooth from the mac on the new iPhone if it gets better front facing cameras that aren't so staticky.

I think we're talking about the same company, Authentec. The reports are that Apple have been in discussions with Authentec about using their tech since last year.

What's the iPad rumour you mentioned?

I'm expecting Facetime HD as an almost certainty, they need to sort out the poor quality, front facing camera.
