[quote]IBM, Apple Computer and Motorola worked together to create the PowerPC almost a decade ago. However, the three companies paths have diverged since then. Loughran says that there are no co-development activities currently between IBM and Motorola.

Is this really news to anyone? Slowly they have been drifting apart. This is like Asia being surprised that the Indian continent slammed into it millions of years ago.

The big question is where will Apple's path take them. I love how Apple keeps its mouth shut about these things. It is amazing that a publicly traded company can be so secret about who it is working with on future products. This forum would be pretty dull if Apple was more open.

This is only news to those who are still under the delusion that there's still an "AIM" alliance in existence.

[quote]Currently, IBM and Motorola ensure compatibility between different embedded PowerPC's through the Book E collaboration. This agreement allows for the maximum flexibility for either company to adapt their processors for emerging applications while ensuring software compatibility with legacy PowerPC processors.

The Book E collaboration has not changed, but it seems to be the only collaboration that IBM and Motorola have. According to company spokespersons, neither company shares any architectural upgrades on PowerPC.

Interesting...the are still collaborating on some of the technology in the G5.

    Let's hope so.

I can't wait until this whole 'G5' thing is out in the open...

It's all so Clandestine. Neither IBM or AMD are this secretive...quite the opposite...'boastful'.

Still, when your marketshare is the size of a 'micro' penis...I guess you have to do what you can to make your next 'trick' exciting...

    Leverage and all...

    Lemon Bon Bon

    Oh yeah,

What was that Motorola said about the G5 being,

'...the processor to end all processors...' ?

Yep, Apple not only likes to compare itself to luxury goods companies, but it also acts like one too. If you haven't noticed, all luxury goods companies tend to be this secret about upcoming products if not more, follow in the footsteps of their god-like founder, etc...

Well we see the beginning of the end of the PPC as a desktop cpu. Neither Moto nor IBM seem to be commited to invest heavily into its future. So... Apple will need a new CPU before long.
