Powerbook 667 DVI Screen Replacement

So to make a long story short, I need to replace the screen on my powerbook (G4 667 DVI, 4 months old). One of my friends tripped over the power cord and knocked it to the floor. It landed on its side but still managed to crack the LCD screen. The screen is useless and I can't tell you how bummed I am. I have the extended warranty, but apple says they won't cover it because it was an accident. I am a college student so I just got home for winter break and I need to deal with it before I get back next quarter. I have been quoted about $1000 to fix the thing, which blows. I could manage to get the money together with the help of my parents, but it's still a lot of money to spend on a computer I bought for just over double that a few months ago. I have it hooked up to a CRT I have at home for the moment, and am considering that as an alternative to replacing the screen at this time. Will the price ever go down? Anyone have any experience dealing with a problem like this?

Thanks in advance.

Eric

    do you have homeowners insurance?

did you add the TiBook to your coverage when you bought it?

did you purchase the computer with a credit card?

sometimes these companies have extra warranties that you might want to look into.

I know my TiBook is covered by my parents homeowners insurance... so if it were ever to get stolen or broken... I would get $$$ back to purchase a new machine...

    Agree with Paul...

My dad is a large account insurance auditor for Travelers Property Casualty Corp., and he said that you don't even need to add it to your homeowners coverage, automatically under it since it is property of the house, even though it my not be or damaged/stolen at the house. Contact your insurance company claim department. Sue your friend/s, for anything the insurance company does cover depending on your coverage.

    Good luck!

I wouldn't pay $1000 for something to fixed that I didn't break, that is outrageous! I don't care who it is, unless it maybe is Anna Kournikova ...
