Current machines on the way out?

<a href="http://www.macbidouille.com/niouzcontenu.php?date=2002-04-28#2490"; target="_blank">MacBidouille</a> is reporting the current crop of machines is being EOLed by Apple, along with the current 15,17 and 22" LCDs. Apparently new displays are coming, matching the 23"HD coloring scheme, to go along with new Macs.

Take this FWIW, although MacBidouille rarely engages in rumormongering.

    And in English,

[quote]New mac arrive - Lionel - a 09:53:00 source which wishes to keep its anonymity, gave me interesting information.

APPLE is liquidating stocks. Powermac G4 800,933 and Bi 1Ghz are on the departure It goes from there in the same way for 15, 17 and 22 inches LCD.

Indeed the future range (G5?) will have different look. as on screen LCD 23", the apple will be henceforth out of metal inter alia things.

The machines pro thus finally will move!!!

I don't think we'll see the G5 for another year, maybe longer. The G4 still has legs and the intent is to scale it to around 1.6 GHz, meaning we'll be getting several more speed bumps before the G5 comes out. I just hope Apple doesn't hold back on Rapid I/O until the G5. I want it now!

I sure hope not everything goes white...it's like a brighter biege that shows fingerprints more. It's time to go back to darker metals.

It also seems strange that the LCD screens would be changed so soon for merely aesthetic reasons.

Not necessarilly. Think about it. The G4 will be used in the consumer models while the G5 will be used in the professional models. The G4 has to have a lot of life left in it after the switch. It must continue to scale along with the G5.

If the machines are being phased out this early, a G5 looks doubtful. I say 1, 1.2, and 1.4 Ghz G4 machines. Hopefuly apple will standardize dual processors across the board. Bigger LCD's would be cool, but more expensive. A 19 incher would be nice

I spoke to one of Apple Munich's technical advisors types and quizzed him about the forth comming Apple hardware.

He assurred me that he quote "Doesn't know and wouldn't tell me anyway!".

Wait until the invoice for the latest consultation comes in. I will give the same reply!

God, I hope that the G5 comes soon. The G4 just isn't clocking up fast enough.

Just think how long Apple has been touting their current line of LCD's. They've had the 15 and 17's for quite a while now and the 22", well that's obviouslly losing it's place to the new 23" HD display. I'm sure new higher-res displays are coming of age and/or they want to move their line completely to the 16:9 widescreen aspect with the new casings. I'm sure they want to have the styling fully turned over by the time the new Pro cases are debuted (hopefully by MWNY.)
